Saving raids, EPGP, our doom or our safety net?

As some may have noticed, yesterday EPGP sort of ... failed :)
Luckily, i crashed and found out that my files hadnt been "updated" to these incorrect values, meaning i have a snapshot of more recent values.
Detk examined these and apparantly, the values are correct, or mostly correct.
Both of us have saved a backup / snapshot of this file, so we're safe on the values, we just need to find a way to reset the values to that snapshot :)

If you want to take a look yourself:

World of Warcraft folder => WTF folder => Account => => SavedVariables => EPGP

This is an LUA script file though and requires at least a reader, something like http://luaforge.net/frs/?group_id=377 if you use windows. (sorry for non windows users, but i think you can get this at the homepage)

Saved changes probably won't matter, but i advise strongly against editing it, if we find out you did, well... :P *equips punting boots*

Now, let's see if we can fix this, shall we?

Something, somehow messed up and people were mass awarded EP ... like Bladeskillz now has over 20K EP.
Several others have 13K+ EP
Well... fixing it somehow eh :p

dunno it bugged somehow.
yesterday when raids mixed.

i recieved message from epgp :

cannot alter epgp for typlosion cause the charecter doesen't exist.
i removed typ twiche cause that error message was an uber spam and made me lag.
once typ was back invited it went ok till after 15minutes...

in my log bout 11 ppl recieved 15+ EP a few times in 1minute. for a couple of minutes.

i couden't remove typ during boss fights... and diden't knew it was causing it...

Well that pretty much says it all and i believe i had heard D say that as well, Typh must've had a faulty note, making EPGP go haywire.
Nothing we can't fix though :P
Just want to stress this isn't anyone's fault, maybe someone altered Typh's note by accident or it was faulty since he was inv'd.
Nevertheless, don't worry - you're in the clear :)

i noticed a few days ago Typh didn't have any officer note... no 0,0 or anything, but i think when i looked he wasn't raider rank so I didn't bother telling an officer..... maybe i should have.... you can blame me if you like ;)

For all we know a the current version of EPGP could be a screw up and mishandled the note... :P

This is something the EPGP author cautions users about - so, always make sure, if you're editing officer notes, that they work. Accents and everything. There's a command you can run to print out non-compliant notes in the chat window, but I can't remember it right now. I'll take a look tonight, if I get chance to log on.

The issue appears to be Typhlosion not having an appropriate officer note. It is vital that mains do not have their officer notes touched in any way, shape, or form - except by trained professionals. At the moment that means me or Zaq! :p Maybe Dinac, but the power might go to his head, so best not let him. :)

Anyways... Officers, when you invite, be careful about setting notes. If you are not sure what to do...

Officer note is untouched for mains, and set to the name of the main for alts. Simples. No "+" at the end, no other characters. Double simples!

Anyways, I have pulled the data from immediately prior to the raid (conveniently saved in SV folder), run a few regular expressions over it (Bilge would squirm!) and am about to check that everything is up to date...

I thought there was a restore option, but that might be for GM rank only - but ho hum, no big deal.

Crisis averted before next raid.

The + in player note is correct honda, not officer note. To be honest, now that the officer note is visible to all, I think we can maybe look at player notes being reused... but that is another day's topic. :p

I'm pretty sure there is a restore option in EPGP. Don't recall it being GM only, cos I'm sure I saw it before I became GM.

You dealing with getting the data back in Detk, or do you want to delegate it to me somehow to do something with?
